STT director to participate in the anti-corruption seminar in Vilnius
Žimantas Pacevičius, Director of the Special Investigation Service (STT), and other STT officials will take part in seminar on “Anti-Corruption Policy and Integrity Training” to be held in Vilnius on March 23.
It is a joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Lithuania holding its current presidency, Special Investigation Service and Chief Official Ethics Commission (COEC).
Among the participants of the event are representatives of respective institutions of the OECD Anti-Corruption Network for 18 Eastern European and Central Asian countries, anti-corruption policy makers and experts.
Contributors to the seminar are representatives of OECD, OSCE, Austria, Estonia, Spain, USA, Poland, Turkey and Lithuania.
The three-day seminar aims at sharing experience of anti-corruption activities and raising the level of institutional ethics in countries concerned, providing good practice examples, examining country-specific achievements, preparing recommendations and suggestions on how to improve the implementation of the anti-corruption policy and enhancing the education of public officials and representatives of the business sector and civil society, prompting the necessary reforms.
Efficient governance and transparency are key factors for achieving OSCE objectives in the Economic and Environmental Dimension. Among most important ones are strengthening of energy security, development of an efficient, sound and safe energy sector in certain OSCE countries and throughout the entire OSCE region. The OSCE and its missions in individual countries focus on anti-corruption strategies, implementation of effective anti-corruption policy, relevant training and education programmes.
Increasing the efficiency of public administration and fight against corruption are important not only in the context of Lithuania's OSCE Chairmanship, but are also included into the priority work programme of the Seimas and the Government of Lithuania.
The STT director will deliver welcoming remarks to seminar participants at 9:30, March 23. The seminar will take place at “Best Western Vilnius” hotel.
