EU Twinning project in Croatia launched

Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania together with the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania and Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) has already started to implement the EU Twinning project „Strengthening the System of Supervision of Political Activities and Electoral Campaign Financing in the Republic of Croatia“.

Over 6 months, experts from the Central Electoral Commission and the Special Investigation Service have been sharing their experience with their colleagues from the State Electoral Commission of the Republic of Croatia and from lower electoral districts about establishing the effective system of supervision of political activities and electoral campaign financing and will jointly generate corruption prevention measures. The total budget of the project amounts to almost 200 000 euro. The CPMA is providing financial and administrative management.

The Project is implemented under the supervision of the Project Leader Mr. Zenonas Vaigauskas, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission. In order to develop a wider range of possible measures for assuring transparent organization of electoral campaigns, Latvian colleagues from respective institutions were also invited to join in.

This is already the second EU Twinning project administered by the Special Investigation Service. In 2009-2011, STT successfully implemented the EU Twinning project "Support for the Anti-Corruption Department with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan“.
