The Special Investigation Service (STT) has initiated pre-trial investigation of large-scale bribery and trading in influence.
The data available in a pre-trial investigation suggest that representatives of one business group gave a huge bribe of about EUR 100,000 to Eligijus Masiulis, Member of the Seimas and leader of the Liberal Movement, for the action for the group’s benefit by the political party.
Today searches have been conducted at the working places of the president and vice-president of the business group, as well as Masiulis‘ home, car, working place and the office of the Liberal Movement.
The procedural actions are performed to clarify all the other circumstances of the alleged criminal acts.
Article 62(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania states that Members of the Seimas may not be held criminally liable or be detained, o have their liberty restricted otherwise, without the consent of the Seimas. Therefore, the decision was taken to interview MP Eligijus Masiulis as a special witness.
Pre-trial investigation is controlled and supervised by a group of prosecutors of the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General‘s Office.
