The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT), in co-operation with the Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), launched pre-trial investigation. On 16 June officers of the STT Klaipėda Field Office made searches in the state enterprise Klaipėda State Seaport Authority (VĮ Klaipėdos valstybinio jūrų uosto direkcija) and detained the director of infrastructure of the enterprise, G. Z. Officers also detained a Latvian national, G. K., Chair of the Board in one of the Latvian construction companies.
The data obtained by STT suggest that G. K., representing a Latvian company that won several construction tenders announced by the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, the value of which amounts to several million Euro, paid bribes to G.Z. in several ‘instalments’ for a value exceeding 250 minimum subsistence levels in exchange for decisions made by the Seaport Authority for the benefit of the Latvian company.
Pre-trial investigation actions also took place in Latvia. KNAB detained six persons holding high-level positions in one major Latvian business group and conducted 20 searches. During them, KNAB officials found many relevant documents and over EUR 100,000 in cash.
The pre-trial investigation performed by the STT Klaipėda Field Office is supervised and headed by prosecutors of the Klaipėda County Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division.
Seeking Lithuania‘s objective to become a member of the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development and its Anti-Bribery Working Group the specialised anti-corruption agency, STT, is building its co-operation with the specialised anti-corruption bodies of other countries.
