STT shares experience with Georgian State Security Service officers

On the 23rd–25th of January 2017, 2 officers from the State Security Service of Georgia – Mr. Aleksandre Tabatadze, deputy head of the State Security Service of Georgia and Mr. Lasha Tsomaia, head of Anticorruption agency of the State Security Service of Georgia visited Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania.

During this visit, officers from Special Investigation Service provided information about corruption prevention in Lithuania, practice of corruption–related crimes detection and investigation. Later, quests from Georgia visited the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania and State Security Department of the Republic of Lithuania.

On the 25th of May 2016, was signed a cooperation agreement between Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania and the State Security Service of Georgia. The purpose of this cooperation agreement is closer, clearer and quicker cooperation between institutions on the issues related to corruption prevention and corruption–related crimes investigation.

During the last year, in 2016, Georgia carried out main reforms in law enforcement and state security areas. Institutions, responsible for state security, are not under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia anymore. On the 7th of July 2015, Georgian Parliament adopted Law on the State Security Service of Georgia. Based on this Law, on the 1st of August, 2016, the State Security Service of Georgia was established.

One of the main tasks of the State Security Service of Georgia is the fight against corruption. Anticorruption agency of the State Security Service of Georgia investigates disciplinary offences, corruption–related crimes, criminal offences and implement a conflict of interests, conducts corruption prevention and detention of corruption.
