When confirming the Special Investigation Service Performance Report for 2008 on July 16, 2009 the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania gave an assignment to the Government of Lithuania to consider a possibility of amending the Government‘s Decision „On Remuneration for Valuable Information about the Crimes, which Involve Property Damage to the State”, adopted on the 21st January, 2003, by introducing a possibility to award onetime payment to the persons having provided valuable information about the offences of a corruptive nature.
Currently valid Government‘s Decision „On Remuneration for Valuable Information about the Crimes, which Involve Property Damage to the State” provides that the state may award onetime payment to the persons, who provided the relevant authorities with valuable information on the offences adverse to economics, business procedures or finance system. However it does not include an option of rewarding in the same manner for reporting the offences of a corruptive nature.
The Special Investigations Service (STT) has expressed its view that while seeking more efficient fight against corruption it was necessary to urge the residents to take more active part in anti-corruption activities, i.e. to report about corruption offences they were aware of and remunerate such people if the information provided helped the state to recover the damage done to it.
