President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė signed a decree appointing Egidijus Radzevičius, aged 39, Deputy Director of the Special Investigations Service (STT). The decree was signed in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania and Law on the Special Investigation Service and taking into consideration STT Director’s Saulius Urbanavičius submission.
In the pre-trial investigation concerning trading in influence carried out by the Special Investigation Service, six individuals are suspected of having committed offences provided for by several different articles of the Criminal Code. Jonas Milius, director of the State Food and Veterinary Service, is suspected of abuse of office and forgery of documents, other individuals are suspected of abuse of office, trading in influence and forgery of documents. More detailed information on the suspects is not given now to avoid prejudicing the ongoing investigation and proceedings.
The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT), in co-operation with the Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), launched pre-trial investigation. On 16 June officers of the STT Klaipėda Field Office made searches in the state enterprise Klaipėda State Seaport Authority (VĮ Klaipėdos valstybinio jūrų uosto direkcija) and detained the director of infrastructure of the enterprise, G. Z. Officers also detained a Latvian national, G. K., Chair of the Board in one of the Latvian construction companies.
The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) reported an excellent investigative performance, concluding the highest number of investigations in the last years, curbing cross-border fraud and bringing tangible results in protecting EU taxpayers' money.
